Demo – Int – Making an elevator pitch

The Language Professional - Prepare-Learn-Review-Followup

In this lesson, we’ll be imagining we’re in an elevator with the CEO of a company.

Take a look at these 3 example videos and decide:

  • Whose speech do you prefer?
  • Why do you prefer it?

You can tell me your opinions in the lesson.

Now consider what you would say to the CEO – you only have about 30 seconds!
We’ll start our lesson by role-playing this situation:

Elevator pitch

You’ll need to book a lesson to attend.

You’ll receive an activity sheet after the lesson to help review and summarize the lesson.
To write answers on these PDFs: 1) download Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, 2) Tools -> Fill & Sign.

Follow up

Look back at the 3 videos. Do they follow the IDEA model?

If you have completed the activity sheet, then you have already written a short pitch.

Now it’s time to practise it.

  1. Stand in front of a mirror – it’s a great way to see how you look while you practice.
  2. Look at your body language as you speak. Keep practising until you look confident and sound natural.
  3. Record your speech on your phone and watch it for a better understanding.
  4. Send your speech to me and I’ll post it on the blog!

Posting your efforts on a blog is a great way to motivate and set goals for your learning. I hope to see plenty of students doing this in future!
